Suffering From A Hot Conservatory?

Conservatories are sun traps in their own right, with lots of glass they act like a greenhouse and when situated on a south facing aspect can become unbearable in the summer months.
Fortunately there are several ways to reduce the heat making your conservatory a useable space all year round. We've spoken to people who have tried & tested different options from blinds to air conditioning & even solar reflective film.

Conservatory Roof Blinds

Blinds
This is by far the most popular and seemingly flexible choice, using a combination of side window blinds & roof blinds a high level of control over heat & light can be achieved whilst providing a high degree of privacy & protection against fading.

The couple we spoke to had blinds installed by Hillarys who can be contacted on 0800 916 7761 and were particularly pleased with not only the reduction in heat & glare but also the choice of blinds available allowing them to mix & match with their existing decor.

Conservatory Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning
Air conditioning comes in various shapes & forms and can be an excellent way to reduce the ambient temperature whilst also lowering humidity. A system such as the one pictured in the photo opposite is called a multi split, this has the advantage of being quieter than a portable unit as the compressor is situated outside. Air conditioning is best used in conjunction with roof blinds to reduce the load and subsequent running costs of the aircon. More information can be found on our air conditioning page.

Conservatory Air Conditionng

Solar Reflective Film
This comprises a very thin reflective like film that is adhered to the inside of the glass and has the effect of reducing the suns heat & energy. It also has the advantage of filtering harmful UV light and should reduce the temperature within the conservatory, however, our findings do not support this, more information can be found on the reflective window film page.
